Frequently Asked Questions

Membership (15)

I joined originally as an Associate Member, but now I'm a published Author I'd like to upgrade.

1. You'll need to be able to login with your Associate Membership details - if you don't remember your password it would be an idea to reset it before you start:  http://www.austcrimewriters.com/user/password

2. Login to the site using your email address and the new password.

3.  Click on the membership option in the top menu, click on "Join ACWA"

4. Select the Author Membership type by clicking on Add to Cart beside it.

5.  You should then be taken to the shopping cart page (if not please go to: http://www.austcrimewriters.com/cart) and click on checkout to complete.

(Please note - if you did not login first, you'll be asked to do so now *).

6.  Complete the billing information field and proceed to Paypal in the event that you have selected a paid membership **.

* This is the account you'll use to login on the site, update your bio / books and services links etc - it is part of the act of signing up for a membership - not instead of.

** The payment system has not changed - you can either use a credit card at the Paypal site OR use your Paypal Account if you have one to complete the transaction.

Once the order is completed we'll automatically update your membership expiry date.

To add your new release - login to your Author or Publisher Account and click on Create Content on the right of the Site, when you are on your profile page (click on the red Hello <your name> at the top right).

Choose Event and complete the details requested.

If you are not logged in go to:  http://www.austcrimewriters.com/content/add-event and complete the details

Your submission will go into our moderation queue where we will check that everything is formatted right and your entry is laid out properly after which it will be published.

(There may be a short delay in moderation but we will get to your entry as quickly as we possibly can).

Once you have added a membership to your online cart, and followed through to the end of the process - you'll find that our ONLY payment option at present is Paypal.

As a volunteer organisation it's not easy for us to provide any other facilities without having to increase the cost of membership to cover those fees, however, you can use your credit card at Paypal - although you will have to refer to their site for details on how to do that.

https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/helpcenter/helphub/article/?solutionId...

(Please note - they do change the layout of the payment screen regularly so the options might move without us knowing). Please refer to Paypal FAQs for details.

If you do not have an account on the site please use the REGISTER NOW link at the top of the login page that's shown as part of the checkout procedure

** If you have signed up for a newsletter this has not created an account on the site, you must register on the site to get one.

We cannot access your password - so if you are not able to login / your password does not seem to be working please use the reset password tab on the login screen:

http://www.austcrimewriters.com/user

At the top of the screen you'll see a red button that says "Hello <your username>". Click on that and you'll go to your profile page - the menu is there on the right.

(While you're there why not edit your profile and make sure all of your information is up to date.)

We'll automatically send you an email to let you know when you're membership (role) is about to expire on the site, but if you want to check at any stage, you can login to your user account and you'll see at the top of your account page, there's a line there that will tell you when your role (the type of membership you have) is due to expire.

On the top menu there is a link to "Membership" Click on that and then scroll down and click on Join / Renew ACWA Membership

Select the membership level by adding the level you require to your shopping cart.

NOTE:  If you are renewing you will need to login on the site using the username and password you created when you first purchased your membership. You can login before commencing the Membership purchase (login in the top menu) or as part of the purchase process.

♦ If you have forgotten either your username or your password - click on the "Request New Password" tab and enter your username (if you know it) or the email address you used to register.

► If the site does not recognise your email address please use the "Contact us" option and let us know what your name / email address combination is and we'll double check your account status.

NOTE: The payment system has not changed - you can either use a credit card at the Paypal site OR use your Paypal Account if you have one to complete the transaction.

You do NOT need to have a paypal subscription to pay - on the payment screen there will be an option to pay with a credit card which is likely (they change it sometimes and we can't keep up with that) to say something along the lines of: "Pay with a credit or debit card - (Optional) Sign up to PayPal to make your next checkout faster" - note the OPTIONAL. Click on that option if you do not have a Paypal Account.

Once the order is completed we'll automatically update your membership expiry date.

We've recently changed the way that New Releases are displayed on the site. The front screen now lists 16 of the latest - based on the publication date, staying in place for 6 months at a time, and the full display / page lists them for 6 months before and after the release date.

Once the date timeframe passes, the book will automatically be dropped from display.

If your membership changes / expires / is cancelled during that time then the release will stay on display unless you specifically ask for it to be removed.

Log into the website using the Login option at the top of the screen.

(If you've forgotten your password there's an option on the login page to reset it).

Once you have logged in - go to My Account (top menu on the screen).

Click on the "Edit Member Info" tab to add your bio and book information.

To add your new release - login to your Author or Publisher Account and click on Create Content on the right of the Site, when you are on your profile page (click on the red Hello <your name> at the top right).

Choose New Release and complete the details requested.

If you are not logged in go to:  http://www.austcrimewriters.com/content/new-release and complete the details

Your submission will go into our moderation queue where we will check that everything is formatted right and your entry is laid out properly after which it will be published.

(There may be a short delay in moderation but we will get to your entry as quickly as we possibly can).

This seems to have happened once or twice when people have created an account on the site but not actually signed up for a membership:

http://www.austcrimewriters.com/memberships

Could you double check that any email isn't being caught up in your spam filters first, but if it's not there - use the Contact option on the site to send a note and we'll see if we can work out what's going on).

Having an account on the website isn't quite the same as signing up for a membership (as there are different sorts of membership levels). You can use the membership option at the top of the screen to signup.

When you're logged into the site there's a link "My Account" at the top of the screen. Click on that and click on the Edit profile tab which will allow you to add / update your profile information

Ned Kelly Awards (2)

All of the categories, and the guidelines on how to enter are listed here: http://www.austcrimewriters.com/content/award-guidelines

The Best First Fiction is literally for a first ever novel by a writer - not the first nominated for the Ned Kelly Awards. Even if this is your first nomination, if you have published previous books, then "Best First Fiction" does NOT apply to your submission.
