‘Inside Dope is brilliantly plotted to tell a complex and highly amusing story. The characters are larger than life; the narrative deliciously demonic; and the dialogue outrageously overblown yet real. The whole adds up to a hilarious novel in a unique and original style.’
The second of three novels to feature Tito Ihaka, a Maori detective in Aukland, Inside Dope centred on the manhunt for the notorious real-life Mr Asia, whose gang smuggled drugs into Australia and New Zealand from Southeast Asia in the 1970s (a story recently featured in the Australian TV series Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities).
Paul Thomas (born 1951) is a New Zealand novelist, journalist, sports biographer and scriptwriter. Thomas' novels are set primarily in Australia and New Zealand, and often also in France. He is known for his humorous writing style, especially in the novels featuring Tito Ihaka, a Māori detective in Auckland.
