The Australian Crime Writers Association, its members and the crime writing community worldwide were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Peter Temple. A five-times Ned Kelly Award winner, Peter was the first Australian crime writer to win the British Crime Writers' Association Gold Dagger and the first crime writer to win a Miles Franklin. Peter had the most acute writer's ear. He listened, analysed and loved Australian sensibility and wrote sparse, pointed, beautiful and profoundly Australian stories as a result. He was a good and supportive friend to many authors in the crime writing community, and always went out of his way to thank those readers, reviewers and fans who likewise supported him.
His death is a huge loss and we have his family and close friends in our thoughts at this sad time.
