Rachel Amphlett has signed a four book deal with publisher Luzifer Verlag
Author Rachel Amphlett, whose recent crime thriller Scared to Death introduced Detective Kay Hunter to readers last month, has today signed a four book deal with publisher, Luzifer Verlag.
The deal secures the worldwide German rights to Rachel’s Dan Taylor espionage series, already popular with readers for a number of years in the English language.
What makes the deal even more extraordinary is that Rachel is one of a growing number of authors taking matters into their own hands and choosing to self-publish.
‘I’m very fond of the Dan Taylor series,’ says Rachel from her current home in Brisbane, Australia. ‘Writing and publishing the series in English to date has taught me so much about running my own business and the publishing industry as a whole.’
Pitching to foreign publishers was a goal Rachel set for herself at the end of last year, and the quick response to sign up the series has been a pleasant surprise. ‘It didn’t even occur to me to approach an agent to sort all this out for me – it’s been a lot of fun researching the sort of publisher I needed to pitch to.’
In addition to Rachel, the publisher is also home to the German translations of ex-SAS soldier, Chris Ryan. ‘Working with Luzifer Verlag means that the Dan Taylor books will reach their perfect audience.’
Not that Rachel is resting on her laurels. ‘Of course it’s given me the confidence to approach other publishers to see what other languages the Dan Taylor series can be translated to, and I’m looking forward to hearing from new fans all over the world for whom English is a second language.’
